
Taco salad
Ingredients:
For the Salad:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix
- 1 head romaine lettuce or iceberg lettuce, chopped
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional)
- 1 avocado, diced
- 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
- Tortilla chips or a taco shell bowl (for serving)
Optional Topping:
- Sour cream
- Guacamole
- Salsa or pico de gallo
- Fresh cilantro leaves
Instructions:
1. Cook the Beef:
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Drain excess fat, then stir in the taco seasoning mix and 1/4 cup of water. Simmer for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
2. Assemble the Salad:
- In a large salad bowl or individual taco shell bowls, layer the following: chopped lettuce, taco-seasoned beef, cherry tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, sliced olives, diced avocado, and green onions.
3. Add Toppings:
- Garnish with optional toppings such as sour cream, guacamole, salsa, or fresh cilantro. Sprinkle crushed tortilla chips over the top for added crunch or serve the salad in a crispy taco shell bowl.
4. Serve:
- Toss the salad gently before serving or allow each guest to customize their own bowl.
