Traditional Creamy Coffee Liqueur

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter of milk

  • 2 cans of evaporated milk

  • 2 cups of sugar

  • 6 egg yolks

  • 4 tablespoons of cornstarch

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • Rum or aguardiente (to taste)


Instructions:

  1. In a pot, add the milk and the cinnamon stick.

  2. Heat over medium heat until it’s almost boiling.

  3. Meanwhile, blend the evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, cornstarch, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.

  4. Once the milk is hot, reduce the heat to low and slowly pour in the blended mixture, stirring constantly.

  5. Simmer over low heat, stirring continuously, for about 5 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  6. Remove from heat and let it cool completely.

  7. Add the rum or aguardiente to taste and stir well.

  8. Pour the liqueur into a bottle or jar and refrigerate.

  9. Serve well chilled.
