
Chinese Broccoli with Garlic Oyster Sauce
A quick and delicious Chinese-style side dish featuring tender-crisp Gai Lan (Chinese broccoli) coated in a flavorful garlic oyster sauce. Perfect alongside rice and your favorite protein!
Ingredients
For the Sauce:

3 tablespoons oyster sauce
-
1 teaspoon sugar
-
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
-
1 tablespoon Chinese cooking wine (Shaoxing wine) or mirin
For the Stir-Fry:
-
1 tablespoon peanut oil (or vegetable oil)

2 tablespoons garlic, minced
-
1 teaspoon ginger, minced
-
1 bunch Chinese broccoli (Gai Lan), tough ends trimmed
-
6 tablespoons water (divided)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix together:

Oyster sauce

Sugar
β
Sesame oil
β
Chinese cooking wine (or mirin)
Set aside.
Step 2: Cook the Chinese Broccoli

Heat 3 tablespoons of water in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat.

Add Chinese broccoli (Gai Lan), cover with a lid, and steam for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.

Remove from the pan and set aside.
Step 3: Sauté the Aromatics

In the same pan, heat 1 tablespoon of peanut oil over medium heat.

Add minced garlic and ginger, stirring constantly for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Step 4: Add the Sauce & Finish

Pour in the prepared oyster sauce mixture and the remaining 3 tablespoons of water.

Stir well and let the sauce simmer for 1-2 minutes until slightly thickened.
Step 5: Combine & Serve

Pour the sauce over the steamed Chinese broccoli.

Serve immediately as a side dish with steamed rice and your favorite protein.
