Steak with Creamy Cajun Garlic Shrimp

Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

For the Steak:

  • 2 ribeye or filet mignon steaks (about 1 inch thick)

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 cloves garlic, smashed

  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme (optional)

For the Cajun Shrimp:

  • 12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning

  • ½ teaspoon paprika

  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Cream Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream

  • ½ cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese

  • ½ teaspoon Cajun seasoning

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped


Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Steak

  1. Remove steaks from refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking.

  2. Pat dry and season both sides with salt, pepper, and paprika.

  3. Heat olive oil in a heavy skillet over high heat.

  4. Sear steaks for 3–4 minutes per side (for medium-rare).

  5. Add butter, garlic, and thyme. Baste steak with melted butter for 1 minute.

  6. Remove and rest for 5–10 minutes.


Step 2: Cook the Shrimp

  1. Toss shrimp with Cajun seasoning and paprika.

  2. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat.

  3. Cook shrimp 1–2 minutes per side until pink.

  4. Remove from pan and set aside.


Step 3: Make the Creamy Cajun Sauce

  1. In the same pan, melt butter.

  2. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.

  3. Pour in heavy cream and simmer for 3–4 minutes.

  4. Stir in Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.

  5. Season with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper.

  6. Add shrimp back into the sauce and simmer 1–2 minutes.


Step 4: Assemble

  • Place steak on a plate.

  • Spoon creamy Cajun shrimp over the top.

  • Garnish with fresh parsley and chili flakes.


Cooking Tips

  • Use a cast iron skillet for the best crust.

  • For medium doneness, cook steak 4–5 minutes per side.

  • Let the steak rest before slicing to keep juices inside.
