Garlic Shrimp and Broccoli Stir-Fry

🛒 Ingredients

Main:

  • 500g (1 lb) large shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 2 cups broccoli florets

  • 1 small onion, cut into wedges

  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced (optional)

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Stir-Fry Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce

  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or water

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (mixed with 1 tablespoon water)


👩‍🍳 Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Shrimp

  1. Pat shrimp dry with paper towels.

  2. Lightly season with salt and pepper.


Step 2: Blanch the Broccoli (Optional but Recommended)

  1. Boil water in a pot.

  2. Add broccoli and cook for 1–2 minutes.

  3. Remove and place in cold water to keep bright green. Drain well.


Step 3: Make the Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, sesame oil, black pepper, and broth.

  2. Stir well and set aside.


Step 4: Stir-Fry

  1. Heat oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat.

  2. Add shrimp and cook 1–2 minutes per side until pink. Remove and set aside.

  3. In the same pan, add garlic and ginger; sauté until fragrant (about 30 seconds).

  4. Add onion and red bell pepper; stir-fry 2–3 minutes.

  5. Add broccoli and toss well.

  6. Return shrimp to the pan.


Step 5: Add Sauce

  1. Pour in the prepared sauce.

  2. Add cornstarch slurry.

  3. Stir and cook 1–2 minutes until sauce thickens and coats everything.


🍽 Serving Suggestions

  • Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

  • Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions.

  • Cook shrimp quickly to avoid overcooking (they turn rubbery if overdone).
