Crispy Onion Rings

Ingredients (Serves 4)

For the Onion Rings:

  • 2 large onions

  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)

  • 1 egg

  • 1 cup (240ml) milk

  • 1–1½ cups breadcrumbs (panko for extra crispiness)

  • Oil for deep frying

For the Dipping Sauce (Optional):

  • ½ cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tablespoon ketchup

  • 1 teaspoon mustard

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Onions

  1. Peel onions and slice into ½-inch thick rings.

  2. Separate the rings and set aside.


Step 2: Prepare the Batter

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and paprika.

  2. In another bowl, whisk egg and milk together.

  3. Place breadcrumbs in a separate bowl.


Step 3: Coat the Rings

  1. Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture.

  2. Then dip into the egg mixture.

  3. Finally coat with breadcrumbs.

  4. Press gently so crumbs stick well.


Step 4: Fry

  1. Heat oil to 175°C (350°F).

  2. Fry onion rings in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.

  3. Remove and drain on paper towels.


Step 5: Serve

  1. Mix all dipping sauce ingredients in a bowl.

  2. Serve onion rings hot with the sauce.


Tips for Extra Crispy Rings


    • Chill coated rings for 15–20 minutes before frying.

    • Do not overcrowd the pan.

    • Use panko breadcrumbs for crunchier texture.
