Crispy Fried Chicken Tacos with Spicy Sauce

These crispy fried chicken tacos feature golden, crunchy taco shells filled with juicy shredded chicken, then topped with fresh herbs, crunchy vegetables, and a drizzle of creamy and spicy sauces. Ingredients (Serves 4 | Makes 8 tacos)

Chicken Filling

  • 400 g cooked chicken breast or thighs, shredded

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon onion powder

  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Taco Shells

  • 8 small flour tortillas

  • Vegetable oil, for deep frying

Toppings

  • ½ cup shredded purple cabbage

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions

  • Red chili flakes or chopped fresh chili (optional)

Creamy Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt, to taste

Spicy Drizzle Sauce

  • 2–3 tablespoons chili sauce or sriracha

  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar (optional, for balance)


Instructions

Step 1: Season the chicken

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.

  2. Add shredded chicken, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.

  3. Toss and cook for 3–4 minutes until the chicken is heated through and well seasoned.

  4. Remove from heat and set aside.


Step 2: Fry the taco shells

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 170–175°C / 340–350°F.

  2. Carefully fold each tortilla in half using tongs and fry until golden and crispy, about 1–2 minutes per side.

  3. Remove and drain on paper towels.


Step 3: Prepare the sauces

  1. In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, lime juice, garlic powder, and salt to make the creamy sauce.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix chili sauce with honey (if using) for the spicy drizzle.


Step 4: Assemble the tacos

  1. Fill each crispy shell with seasoned shredded chicken.

  2. Top with cabbage, cilantro, and green onions.

  3. Drizzle with creamy sauce and spicy sauce.

  4. Sprinkle chili flakes if desired.


Serve

  • Serve immediately while shells are crispy.

  • Best enjoyed fresh as a snack, appetizer, or casual meal.

  • Chicken can be replaced with shrimp or pulled beef.

  • Air-fried or baked tortillas can be used for a lighter version.
