This dish is bold, fresh, and perfectly balanced. Spicy blackened tilapia pairs beautifully with bright cilantro lime rice and creamy avocado salsa,

Ingredients

For the Blackened Tilapia

  • 4 tilapia fillets

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Cilantro Lime Rice

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice

  • 2 cups water or chicken broth

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter

  • Zest and juice of 1 lime

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped

  • Salt to taste

For the Avocado Salsa

  • 2 ripe avocados, diced

  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped

  • 1 small tomato, diced

  • Juice of 1 lime

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Optional: chopped jalapeño for heat

Instructions

1. Prepare the Rice

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until clear.

  2. In a saucepan, bring water or broth to a boil.

  3. Add rice, oil or butter, and salt. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.

  4. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes.

  5. Fluff with a fork and stir in lime zest, lime juice, and cilantro.

2. Make the Avocado Salsa

  1. In a bowl, gently combine avocados, red onion, tomato, lime juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper.

  2. Set aside to let flavors blend.

3. Blacken the Tilapia

  1. In a small bowl, mix paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper.

  2. Pat tilapia fillets dry and brush with olive oil.

  3. Coat both sides generously with the spice mixture.

  4. Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.

  5. Cook tilapia for 3–4 minutes per side until blackened and flaky.

Serving

Serve the blackened tilapia over a bed of cilantro lime rice and top with fresh avocado salsa. Garnish with extra cilantro or lime wedges if

desired.
