Beef Stir-Fry with Broccoli and Carrots

Description

This dish features tender beef strips stir-fried with fresh broccoli and carrots in a savory, lightly glossy sauce. It is quick to prepare, nutritious, and full of flavor. The beef is juicy and well-seasoned, while the vegetables remain crisp-tender, making it a perfect everyday meal served on its own or with steamed rice.


Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

Beef & Marinade

  • 400 g beef sirloin or flank steak, sliced into strips

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

Vegetables

  • 2 cups broccoli florets

  • 2 medium carrots, sliced into sticks

  • 1 small onion (optional), sliced

Stir-Fry Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • ½ teaspoon sugar

  • 3–4 tablespoons water or beef stock

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Optional Garnish

  • Chopped green onions

  • Sesame seeds

Step 1: Marinate the beef

  1. In a bowl, combine beef strips with soy sauce, cornstarch, black pepper, and garlic.

  2. Mix well and let marinate for 10–15 minutes.


Step 2: Prepare the sauce

  1. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and water.

  2. Stir until well combined and set aside.


Step 3: Cook the beef

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. Add the beef in a single layer and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until browned but still tender.

  3. Remove beef from the pan and set aside.


Step 4: Stir-fry the vegetables

  1. Add remaining oil to the same pan.

  2. Add carrots and cook for 2 minutes.

  3. Add broccoli (and onion if using) and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until crisp-tender.


Step 5: Combine and finish

  1. Return the beef to the pan with the vegetables.

  2. Pour in the stir-fry sauce.

  3. Toss everything together and cook for 1–2 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats all ingredients evenly.

  4. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.


Serve

  • Serve hot as is, or with steamed white or brown rice.

  • Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.


Tips

  • Slice the beef against the grain for maximum tenderness.

  • Do not overcook the vegetables to keep them vibrant and crunchy.

  • A pinch of chili flakes can be added for heat.
