Traditional Creamy Coffee Liqueur

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter of milk

  • 2 cans of evaporated milk

  • 2 cups of sugar

  • 6 egg yolks

  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • β…› teaspoon salt

  • Rum or aguardiente (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. In a pot, add the milk and cinnamon stick.

  2. Heat over medium heat until it’s almost boiling.

  3. Meanwhile, blend the evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, cornstarch, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt until well combined.

  4. Once the milk is hot, reduce the heat to low and slowly pour in the blended mixture, stirring constantly.

  5. Cook over low heat, stirring continuously, for about 5 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  6. Remove from heat and let cool. Add rum or aguardiente to taste.

  7. Pour the liqueur into a bottle or jar and refrigerate.

  8. Serve very cold.
