Filet Mignon with Creamy Pepper Sauce & Garlic Shrimp

Ingredients (Serves 2)

For the Steak

  • 2 filet mignon steaks (about 180–200 g each)

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 1 clove garlic, crushed

  • Fresh thyme or rosemary (optional)

For the Garlic Shrimp

  • 200 g large shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • Chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

For the Creamy Pepper Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped

  • ½ cup heavy cream

  • ¼ cup beef stock

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

  • ½ teaspoon crushed black pepper (adjust to taste)

  • Salt, to taste

For Serving

  • Mashed potatoes (classic or garlic mashed)

  • Roasted vegetables (carrots, zucchini, bell peppers, or tomatoes)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Steak

Remove the steaks from the refrigerator 20–30 minutes before cooking.
Season generously with salt and black pepper.

Heat olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat.
Add steaks and sear for 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust time for preferred doneness).
Add butter, garlic, and herbs to the pan. Baste the steaks with melted butter for 1 minute.

Remove steaks from the pan and let rest, loosely covered.

2. Cook the Garlic Shrimp

In the same pan or a separate skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Add garlic and sauté briefly until fragrant.
Add shrimp, season with salt and pepper, and cook 1–2 minutes per side until pink and opaque.
Remove from heat and garnish with parsley.

3. Make the Creamy Pepper Sauce

In the steak pan (do not clean it), melt butter over medium heat.
Add shallots and cook until soft.
Pour in beef stock and simmer, scraping up browned bits.

Add cream, Dijon mustard, and crushed black pepper.
Simmer gently until thickened.
Season with salt to taste.

4. Assemble the Dish

Place a scoop of mashed potatoes on each plate.
Top with the rested filet mignon.
Spoon creamy pepper sauce over the steak.
Arrange garlic shrimp on top.
Serve with roasted vegetables on the side.

Serving Notes

  • Best served immediately while hot.

  • Pair with red wine or sparkling water with lemon.

  • For extra luxury, add sautéed mushrooms to the sauce.
