Crispy Fried Cream Cheese Wontons

Yield

4 servings (about 24 wontons)


Ingredients

Filling

  • 225 g (8 oz) cream cheese, softened

  • 2 green onions, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp sugar

  • ½ tsp soy sauce (optional)

Wrappers

  • 24 wonton wrappers

  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (egg wash for sealing)

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil for deep frying

Garnish & Dipping Sauce

  • Chopped green onions

  • Sesame seeds

  • Sweet chili sauce or soy sauce


Instructions

Step 1 – Make the Filling

In a bowl, mix:

  • Cream cheese

  • Green onions

  • Garlic powder

  • Salt

  • Sugar

  • Soy sauce

Stir until smooth and creamy.


Step 2 – Fill the Wontons

  1. Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface.

  2. Add 1 teaspoon of filling in the center.

  3. Brush edges with egg wash.

  4. Fold corners together to form a purse/star shape (as in the photo).

  5. Press tightly to seal.

Repeat until all are done.


Step 3 – Fry the Wontons

  1. Heat oil to 175°C / 350°F.

  2. Fry wontons in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  3. Remove and drain on paper towels.


Step 4 – Serve

  1. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.

  2. Serve hot with sweet chili sauce or soy sauce.


Tips for Perfect Wontons

  • Do not overfill or they may burst.

  • Seal edges well to prevent leaking.

  • Fry in small batches for even crispiness.
