Seared Ahi Tuna Salad with Fresh Vegetables

Ingredients

For the Tuna

  • 2 fresh ahi tuna steaks (about 170–200 g each)

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Salad Base

  • 2 cups mixed salad greens (arugula, spinach, or baby lettuce)

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

  • ½ yellow tomato, sliced

  • ¼ red onion, thinly sliced

  • ½ green apple, thinly sliced

  • ¼ cup microgreens or sprouts

  • 1 soft boiled egg, halved

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds for garnish

Citrus Dressing

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp orange juice

  • 1 tsp honey

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper


Instructions

1. Prepare the Dressing

In a small bowl whisk together:

  • olive oil

  • lemon juice

  • orange juice

  • honey

  • Dijon mustard

  • salt and pepper

Mix until smooth and emulsified. Set aside.


2. Season the Tuna

  • Pat tuna steaks dry with paper towels.

  • Season with salt and pepper.

  • Coat the outside with sesame seeds.


3. Sear the Tuna

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over high heat.

  • Sear tuna for 30–45 seconds per side (for rare center).

  • Remove and let rest for 2 minutes.

Slice the tuna into thin pieces.


4. Assemble the Salad

On a large plate or bowl:

  1. Add mixed greens as the base.

  2. Arrange tomatoes, apple slices, and red onion.

  3. Place the sliced seared tuna on top.

  4. Add soft-boiled egg halves.

  5. Sprinkle microgreens and sesame seeds.


5. Finish the Dish

  • Drizzle citrus dressing over the salad.

  • Add a little extra olive oil and black pepper if desired.


Result:
A fresh restaurant-style seared tuna salad with tender rare tuna, crisp vegetables, and a bright citrus dressing.
