🍰 Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 🥣 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 🍬 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

  • 🧂 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 🧂 1 teaspoon salt

  • 🍫 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 🛢 1 ½ cups vegetable oil

  • 🥛 1 cup buttermilk

  • 🥚 2 large eggs

  • 🌹 2 tablespoons red liquid food coloring

  • 🍾 1 teaspoon white vinegar

  • 🍦 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 🧀 225 g (8 oz) cream cheese, softened

  • 🧈 ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 🍬 4 cups powdered sugar

  • 🍦 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 🧂 A pinch of salt

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour two 8–9 inch (20–23 cm) round cake pans.

  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  3. In another mixing bowl, combine the sugar and vegetable oil, whisking until smooth.

  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

  5. Stir in the buttermilk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Mix until well combined.

  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until smooth and lump-free.

  7. Finally, stir in the white vinegar and gently fold into the batter.

  8. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.

  9. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  10. Allow the cakes to cool completely before removing them from the pans and frosting.

2. Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until creamy and well-blended.

  2. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.

  3. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until the frosting is light, fluffy, and smooth.

3. Assemble the Cake:

  1. Place one cake layer on your serving plate or cake board.

  2. Spread a generous layer of cream cheese frosting on top.

  3. Add the second cake layer and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.

  4. Decorate as desired — sprinkle with cake crumbs, garnish with red berries, or shave white chocolate on top.

📌 Pro Tips:

  • No buttermilk? Make your own by combining 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice. Let it sit for 10 minutes before using.

  • Want a clean, pro finish? Chill the cake layers in the fridge before frosting for easier, neater spreading.

This Red Velvet Cake is not only gorgeous to look at, but its moist crumb and tangy-sweet frosting make it an unforgettable dessert. Serve it at your next gathering or enjoy it with a hot cup of coffee for a sweet moment any day of the week. 🎂✨
