Baked Italian Sub Sandwiches

Ingredients (Makes 4 Subs):

For the Sandwiches:

  • 4 sub rolls or hoagie buns
  • ¼ lb salami, thinly sliced
  • ¼ lb ham, thinly sliced
  • ¼ lb pepperoni or capicola, thinly sliced
  • ¼ lb roast beef (optional for extra heartiness), thinly sliced
  • 8 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup banana peppers or pepperoncini, sliced
  • ¼ cup red onion, thinly sliced

For the Sauce:

  • ½ cup Italian dressing
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) . Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it for easy cleanup.

Step 2: Assemble the Sandwiches

  1. Slice the sub rolls in half horizontally, but don’t separate them completely—leave a small hinge to keep the top attached.
  2. Layer the bottom halves of the rolls with salami, ham, pepperoni (or capicola), and roast beef (if using) .
  3. Top the meats with banana peppers, red onion slices, and 2 slices of provolone or mozzarella cheese per sandwich .
  4. Place the tops of the rolls back onto the sandwiches.

Step 3: Prepare the Garlic Butter Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the Italian dressing, melted butter, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder until well combined.

Step 4: Brush the Rolls

  1. Generously brush the tops and sides of the assembled sandwiches with the garlic butter sauce. Make sure the rolls are well-coated for maximum flavor.

Step 5: Bake the Sandwiches

  1. Place the assembled sandwiches on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–15 minutes , or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the rolls are golden brown and crispy.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Remove the sandwiches from the oven and let them cool for 2–3 minutes.
  2. Serve warm as-is or slice each sandwich in half for easier handling. Add extra banana peppers or a drizzle of Italian dressing if desired.
