A comforting, classic dish made with tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a flavorful meat and rice filling, simmered in a rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey

  • 1 cup cooked rice

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Optional:

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

1.  Prepare the Cabbage

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place the whole head into the boiling water. Cook for 5–7

minutes, gently peeling off the softened outer leaves as they loosen. Set the leaves aside to cool.

2.  Make the Filling

In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

3.  Prepare the Sauce

In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and Worcestershire sauce.

4.  Assemble the Rolls

Place a cabbage leaf flat on a clean surface. Add a small amount of the meat mixture to the center of the leaf. Fold in the sides and roll it up

tightly, like a burrito. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.

5.  Cook the Cabbage Rolls

Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of a large pot or baking dish. Arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down. Pour the remaining

sauce evenly over the rolls.

6.  Simmer or Bake

-  Stovetop: Cover and simmer on low heat for 45–60 minutes.

-  Oven: Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 60 minutes.

7.  Serve

Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.

Tips

  • Add paprika or herbs like thyme for extra flavor.

  • Serve with mashed potatoes or crusty bread for a complete meal.

  • These rolls taste even better the next day.
