Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Bagel

Ingredients

Bagel Base

  • 2 bagels (plain, sesame, or everything bagels work best)

  • 150 g smoked salmon

  • 120 g cream cheese

Optional Toppings

  • 1/2 ripe avocado, sliced

  • 1 tablespoon capers

  • 2 tablespoons red onion, very thinly sliced

  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill or chives, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds or everything seasoning

Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest

  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

1. Prepare the Bagels

  1. Slice the bagels in half horizontally.

  2. Toast them in a toaster or oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 3–4 minutes until lightly golden and crisp.

Tip: A lightly toasted bagel gives the perfect contrast to the creamy topping.


2. Prepare the Cream Cheese Spread

In a small bowl mix:

  • cream cheese

  • lemon juice

  • lemon zest

  • a pinch of black pepper

  • a little chopped dill

Stir until smooth and creamy.


3. Assemble the Bagel

  1. Spread a generous layer of the cream cheese mixture on the toasted bagel halves.

  2. Add slices of avocado if using.

  3. Layer the smoked salmon on top, gently folding the slices for a fuller look.


4. Add the Toppings

Sprinkle over the salmon:

  • thinly sliced red onion

  • capers

  • sesame seeds

  • chopped dill or chives

Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a little extra black pepper.


5. Serve

Serve immediately with:

  • a fresh salad, or

  • a cup of coffee or latte for a café-style brunch.
