This rich and elegant dessert combines the classic flavor of red velvet with a warm molten chocolate center. The outside is soft and fluffy, while the inside melts into a smooth chocolate lava when you cut into it. Perfect for special occasions or a romantic dessert.


📝 Ingredients

For the Cake Batter

  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter

  • ¾ cup (130 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 egg yolks

  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder

  • ¼ cup (30 g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp red food coloring

  • ¼ tsp salt


For the Molten Center

  • 4 small squares dark chocolate (about 60 g)


For Garnish (Optional)

  • Powdered sugar

  • Vanilla ice cream

  • Fresh berries

  • Chocolate sauce

Step 1: Prepare the Oven

  1. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).

  2. Grease 4 ramekins with butter and lightly dust with cocoa powder or flour.


Step 2: Melt Butter and Chocolate

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine butter and chocolate chips.

  2. Heat in 20–30 second intervals, stirring until smooth.


Step 3: Mix the Batter

  1. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, egg yolks, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and creamy.

  2. Add vanilla extract and red food coloring.

  3. Slowly mix in the melted chocolate mixture.


Step 4: Add Dry Ingredients

  1. Sift in flour, cocoa powder, and salt.

  2. Gently fold until smooth and combined.


Step 5: Assemble the Lava Cakes

  1. Fill each ramekin halfway with batter.

  2. Place one piece of dark chocolate in the center.

  3. Cover with more batter until about ¾ full.


Step 6: Bake

  1. Bake for 10–12 minutes.

  2. The edges should be set but the center should remain soft.


Step 7: Serve

  1. Let the cakes rest for 1 minute.

  2. Carefully invert onto a plate.

  3. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle chocolate sauce.
