Toppings

  • ½ cup chocolate shavings

  • Powdered sugar

  • Chocolate curls (optional)

  • Chocolate ice cream (optional)

Instructions

Step 1 – Prepare the Waffle Batter

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together:

    • Flour

    • Sugar

    • Baking powder

    • Salt

  2. In another bowl, whisk:

    • Egg yolks

    • Milk

    • Melted butter

    • Vanilla

  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

  4. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.

  5. Gently fold the egg whites into the batter to keep the waffles light and fluffy.

Step 2 – Cook the Waffles

  1. Preheat a Belgian waffle maker.

  2. Lightly grease with butter or cooking spray.

  3. Pour in the recommended amount of batter.

  4. Cook for 4–6 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

  5. Keep warm while cooking the remaining waffles.

Step 3 – Make the Chocolate Sauce

  1. Heat the heavy cream until just simmering.

  2. Pour it over the chocolate chips.

  3. Let stand for 2 minutes.

  4. Add butter and vanilla.

  5. Stir until smooth and glossy.

Step 4 – Whip the Cream

  1. Beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.

  2. Chill until ready to use.

Step 5 – Assemble

  1. Place a warm waffle on a serving plate.

  2. Add a generous dollop of whipped cream.

  3. Arrange fresh strawberries around the cream.

  4. Drizzle generously with warm chocolate sauce.

  5. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings.

  6. Dust lightly with powdered sugar.

Chef's Tips

  • Separate the eggs for extra-light Belgian waffles.

  • Do not overmix the batter; a few lumps are perfectly fine.

  • Serve the chocolate sauce warm for the best consistency.

  • Use high-quality chocolate (60–70% cocoa) for a richer flavor.

  • Toast leftover waffles in the oven or toaster to restore their crispness.
