Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf

Ingredients

Meatloaf

  • 700 g ground beef (80/20 preferred)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped

  • 200 g mushrooms, finely chopped (optional but traditional Philly-style)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

  • 2 large eggs

  • ½ cup milk

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Cheese Filling & Topping

  • 200 g provolone cheese, sliced or shredded

  • Optional: mozzarella or American cheese for extra melt

Optional Glaze (Philly-style savory)

  • 2 tablespoons beef broth

  • 1 tablespoon ketchup

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

1.  Prepare the Oven

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

2.  Cook the Vegetables

In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms until softened and lightly caramelized.

Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

3.  Mix the Meatloaf Base

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.

Add the cooked vegetables and mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.

4.  Assemble the Meatloaf

Press half of the meat mixture into the loaf pan.

Layer provolone cheese evenly over the center.

Cover with the remaining meat mixture and seal the edges.

5.  Add the Glaze (Optional)

Mix glaze ingredients and brush lightly over the top of the meatloaf.

6.  Bake

Bake uncovered for 50–60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 71°C (160°F).

7.  Rest and Add Extra Cheese

Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes.

Optional: add extra cheese on top and return to oven for 5 minutes until melted.

8.  Serve

Slice and serve warm. Great with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a simple salad.
