Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding

A warm, comforting dessert that’s perfect for chilly days or any time you crave something nostalgic. This bread pudding is rich, moist, and topped with a luscious vanilla sauce that takes it to the next level.


📝 Pudding Ingredients

  • 4 cups (about 8 slices) cubed white bread

  • ½ cup raisins

  • 2 cups milk

  • ¼ cup butter

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ½ cup butter

  • ½ cup white sugar

  • ½ cup packed brown sugar

  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract


👩‍🍳 How to Make the Bread Pudding

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 1.5-quart casserole dish.
2️⃣ In a large bowl, combine cubed bread and raisins.
3️⃣ In a saucepan, heat the milk and ¼ cup butter over medium heat until the butter melts (about 4–7 minutes).
4️⃣ Pour the warm milk mixture over the bread and raisins. Let it soak for 10 minutes.
5️⃣ Stir in sugar, beaten eggs, vanilla, and ground nutmeg.
6️⃣ Pour the entire mixture into the prepared casserole dish.
7️⃣ Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until the center is set and golden brown on top.


🍯 How to Make the Vanilla Sauce

1️⃣ In a small saucepan, combine butter, white sugar, brown sugar, and heavy cream.
2️⃣ Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a full boil and thickens (about 5–8 minutes).
3️⃣ Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.


🍽️ To Serve:

Spoon warm bread pudding into serving dishes and drizzle generously with warm vanilla sauce. Store any leftovers refrigerated and reheat before serving.
