1 lb ground beef (or Italian sausage for extra flavor)
1 medium onion , diced
3 cloves garlic , minced
1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce (or homemade if you have it!)
1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
4 cups cooked spaghetti (about 8 oz uncooked)
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese , divided
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese , plus extra for topping
Optional Garnish : Fresh parsley, crushed red pepper, or extra Parmesan
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Brown the Meat
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef (or sausage) until browned. Drain excess fat.
Add the diced onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened.
Step 2: Combine Ingredients in Slow Cooker
Transfer the cooked meat mixture to the slow cooker.
Stir in the marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well to combine.
Step 3: Cook
Cover and cook on low for 4–6 hours or on high for 2–3 hours , until the sauce is bubbly and flavorful.
Step 4: Add the Spaghetti and Cheese
About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the cooked spaghetti and 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese.
Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese over the top. Cover and cook for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Step 5: Serve
Let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley, crushed red pepper, or extra Parmesan cheese if desired.
