Sautéed Mushroom and Broccoli Stir-Fry

Ingredients

  • 2 cups broccoli florets

  • 1½ cups mushrooms (button or shiitake), sliced

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 small onion or shallot, thinly sliced (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or oyster sauce

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

  • Chili flakes (optional, for heat)


Instructions

  1. Prepare the vegetables
    Wash the broccoli and cut it into bite-sized florets. Slice the mushrooms evenly so they cook at the same rate.

  2. Blanch the broccoli (optional but recommended)
    Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the broccoli and blanch for 1–2 minutes until bright green. Drain and set aside. This helps keep the broccoli tender-crisp.

  3. Sauté aromatics
    Heat olive oil or butter in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onion (if using) and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant and slightly translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for 20–30 seconds.

  4. Cook the mushrooms
    Add the mushrooms to the pan. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until they release their moisture and turn golden brown.

  5. Add the broccoli
    Toss in the blanched broccoli. Stir well to combine with the mushrooms and garlic.

  6. Season the dish
    Add soy sauce (or oyster sauce), black pepper, and salt to taste. Stir-fry for another 2–3 minutes until everything is well coated and heated through.

  7. Finish and serve
    Drizzle with sesame oil and sprinkle chili flakes if desired. Remove from heat and serve hot.
