Karen insulted Her As A Floor Scrubber. Then She Played the King of Instruments.
Chapter 2
BOOM!
Julia slammed her bare feet onto the bass pedalboard while her ten fingers struck the upper manuals simultaneously.
A thunderous, terrifying chord exploded through the cathedral! The sound wave was so massive that the stone floorboards vibrated beneath the guests' feet, and the crystal chandeliers swayed softly overhead.
Eleanor froze, her mouth half-open in a sneer that instantly turned into paralyzing shock.
What followed was not a clumsy attempt, but an unearthly, God-like masterpiece of musical destruction and rebirth. Julia’s bare feet flew across the pedalboard like a lightning-fast dancer, hammering out deep, subterranean bass notes that rumbled through the chests of every billionaire in the room. Her hands swept across the four keyboards in a blinding blur of speed, pulling stop knobs in split-second syncopations, making the thousands of bronze pipes roar like a tempest and weep like angels.
She played The Symphony of the Storm entirely from memory—with a furious, breathtaking technical perfection that transcended human capability.
Across the great hall, wine glasses slipped from frozen fingers and shattered on the floor. Socialites stood paralyzed in the aisles, their eyes wide with sheer, unadulterated awe. Beside the stage, Julian stared at the maintenance girl as if looking at a deity, while Eleanor stood pale as a corpse, her hands trembling as the music she had called "garbage" shook the very foundations of the cathedral.
As the final, monumental chord reverberated through the ancient stone arches, Julia slowly released the pedalboard and lifted her hands from the keyboards. The thunderous notes dissolved into a long, haunting echo that hung in the high rafters before slowly fading into the velvet silence of the cathedral.
Julia sat still on the leather bench, her shoulders heaving with quiet, exhausted breaths. A single tear traced a path through the light dust on her cheek.
For five agonizing seconds, no one in the cathedral dared to breathe.
Then, the silence was shattered by the sound of weeping.
Across the nave, high-society patrons who had sneered at her rubber boots moments before were now openly sobbing, frantically wiping their eyes with silk handkerchiefs. Billionaires and diplomats stood frozen, thoroughly unraveled by the divine brilliance that had just shaken their souls.
From the front row, an elderly gentleman with silver hair—Maestro Vance, the legendary President of the International Music Conservatory—slowly rose to his feet. Tears streamed down his weathered face as he walked trembling toward the platform.
He looked up at Julia, his voice echoing through the silent hall with profound reverence. "The anonymous master... 'Phantom'... the genius who composed The Symphony of the Storm and refused all fame..." He bowed his head low before her. "It was you all along."
A collective gasp echoed through the five-thousand-seat cathedral.
Julia had taken the humble maintenance job at St. Jude’s for a single reason: to be near the only antique Pipe Organ in the world powerful enough to bring her masterwork to life.
Maestro Vance turned slowly toward Eleanor Vance and her son Julian, who were frantically trying to slip toward the side exit.
"Eleanor," Maestro Vance declared, his voice booming with righteous, icy fury. "You called this young lady a floor scrubber? You demanded her bucket burned and wanted her thrown out into the storm?"
Eleanor’s face turned ash-white. She stammered, clutching her mink coat tightly. "I... I didn't know—"
"You judged a master by her clothes," Maestro Vance cut her off, pointing a stern finger toward the heavy oak doors. "Your family's sponsorship is permanently revoked. Your son is expelled from the conservatory. Guards! Escort this woman and her son out into the pouring rain—immediately."
Two tall security guards stepped forward, grabbing Eleanor and Julian by their arms and marching them toward the grand entrance. As the heavy doors opened, a gust of cold wind and rain swept inside, swallowing Eleanor's shrill protests as she was forced out into the dark, stormy night—the exact fate she had decreed for Julia.
Maestro Vance turned back to Julia, offering his arm to help her down from the wooden riser.
"Tonight, barefoot maintenance girl or anonymous genius," the Maestro said gently, "this cathedral, and the world of music, belongs to you."
Within a heartbeat, the entire cathedral erupted into a deafening, thunderous standing ovation. High-society guests cheered, applauded, and waved their hands in wild, tearful fervor. Standing barefoot on the cold wood beneath the warm glow of the chandeliers, Julia looked out at the roaring crowd and smiled, knowing her music had finally set her free.
