Asphalt and Ambition
The neon lights of the neon-drenched harbor district buzzed against the heavy midnight mist. Parked in a tight formation outside the Redline MC headquarters were five custom-built machines, but the real tempest was locked inside the upper-floor office of Damian "Ghost" Vance, the charismatic and unyielding leader of the club. For six years, Damian, his closest confidant Kenneth, and three other charter members had shared every mile of open highway, every underground dollar, and every close call with the law. They were brothers forged in oil, leather, and mutual trust.
Or so Damian believed.
The air inside the office was suffocatingly tense. Damian stood beside his heavy oak desk, slamming a thick manila folder down onto the wooden surface. The contents spilled out: encrypted wire-transfer receipts, federal informant transcripts, and internal logistics logs proving that the Redline MC’s lucrative cross-country smuggling routes had been systematically sold out to a ruthless rival syndicate.
And the signature on the primary wire transfer wasn’t some anonymous ghost. It was Kenneth.
Kenneth stepped out from the shadows near the balcony, his face shifting from a look of feigned innocence into a cold, predatory smirk. The rest of the inner circle stood paralyzed in the doorway, staring back and forth between their leader and their trusted brother.
"You?" Damian breathed, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous growl. He stared into the eyes of the man who had pulled him from fiery wreckage and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with him through gang wars. "You sold our lines? You traded six years of brotherhood for a federal paycheck and a ticket out of the country?"
Kenneth laughed, a harsh, grating sound that obliterated six years of loyalty in a single heartbeat.
"Wake up, Damian!" Kenneth snapped, stepping right up to his president and jabbing a sharp finger against Damian's leather cut. "You’ve been blinded by your little throne for too long! You take all the credit and all the glory, while the rest of us bleed on the pavement for scraps. I’m just cashing out before your ego gets us all locked up or killed!"
Before Kenneth could finish his taunt, Damian moved with terrifying, explosive speed. The sheer betrayal short-circuited every ounce of his restraint. He grabbed Kenneth by the collar, slamming him against the heavy steel filing cabinets with enough force to rattle every drawer.
"You think you can gut our family and just walk away?" Damian roared, his knuckles turning white as he tightened his grip.
Panic flared in Kenneth's eyes. Realizing his verbal defense had crumbled, Kenneth yanked a heavy combat knife from his belt, slashing wildly in a blind panic. Damian ducked under the arc of the blade with razor-thin precision, caught Kenneth’s wrist in a crushing iron grip, and twisted sharply.
Clang!
The knife spun out of Kenneth's hand, clattering uselessly across the floor. With a swift, brutal sweep of his leg, Damian knocked Kenneth completely off balance, pinning him flat on his back and pressing a heavy boot directly against his chest.
The remaining club members rushed forward, but they didn't pull Damian off. Instead, they looked down at the exposed bank records, the federal files, and the dropped knife. The truth was absolute and undeniable.
"You're done, Kenneth," Damian said, his voice deadly calm and final. "You traded your brothers for silver. You don't get a patch anymore. Strip your cut, drop your keys, and run before I lose my temper completely."
Stripped of his jacket, his status, and his bike right there on the spot, Kenneth was cast out into the cold night like a stray, his arrogance completely shattered.
The following morning, the sun broke across the horizon in a brilliant blaze of gold and amber. The remaining riders lined up their machines in a tight, unbroken formation.
Damian sat atop his matte-black chopper at the absolute front, his heart heavy with the ghost of a lost friendship, but clear-headed and resolute. With a deafening, synchronized roar of tuned engines, Damian twisted the throttle, leading his loyal brothers forward—leaving the betrayal, the ash, and the broken past behind as they tore into the open road together.
