On a chilly, crowded Monday morning, the rich aroma of freshly roasted espresso beans filled Bean & Brew, a bustling downtown coffee shop. A winding line of fifteen tired commuters stood patiently along the velvet rope, checking their watches and waiting to place their morning orders. Nineteen-year-old college student Leo was working tirelessly behind the counter, single-handedly operating the commercial high-pressure espresso machine to keep the morning rush moving.

Suddenly, the front door swung open. A woman named Karen shoved her way past the entire queue, barging directly up to the beverage pickup station. Extended in her right hand was a long, telescoping selfie stick holding a smartphone that displayed a live view counter showing 50,000 active viewers. Without waiting a second, she slammed her palm loudly against the wooden counter.

"Hey, kid! Make me a Matcha Oat Milk Espresso with double foam and extra heat right now!" Karen demanded, immediately aiming the phone’s wide-angle lens straight into Leo's face. "Make it quick! I’m broadcasting live to fifty thousand fans, and I don't have time to waste standing in this ridiculous line!"

Leo maintained his composure, keeping his tone polite and even. "Good morning, ma'am. Please step over to the cashier register to place your order and pay. Everyone here has been waiting ten to fifteen minutes."

Karen sneered, flipping her camera around to capture her own shocked reaction for her audience.

"Are you guys seeing this?!" Karen squawked into her microphone, her grating voice echoing across the shop. "This uneducated little worker is actively harassing a famous content creator! I’m giving this pathetic shop free promotion just by breathing their air, and this is how they treat VIP guests?!"

Several waiting customers voiced their frustration, telling her to stop cutting and move to the back of the line. Karen spun her selfie stick around, thrusting the camera lens inches from an elderly gentleman's face.

"Shut your mouth, you mindless sheep!" Karen spat, glaring at the crowd. "I earn more in an hour than any of you make in a month!"

Turning back to Leo, she slammed her designer handbag against the counter, her eyes flashing with pure arrogance. "I am not moving a single inch until you hand me my drink—for free—to compensate for your disgraceful customer service!"

Seeing that Karen refused to move, Leo calmly turned toward the pick-up counter, called out Ticket #14, and handed a freshly made caramel macchiato to a waiting customer. He completely ignored Karen's outrageous demands and went straight back to brewing the next scheduled order.

Karen glanced down at her phone screen and froze. The live chat was exploding with thousands of comments, but they weren't taking her side:

  • "LOL she really thought she was VIP!"

  • "Pay for your coffee like everybody else!"

  • "She’s getting ignored on live TV, I’m dying!"

Seeing her own audience laugh at her broke whatever sanity Karen had left. Her face flushed a dangerous shade of crimson.

"Fine! If you won't do your job, I'll make it myself!" Karen barked into the camera. "I'll show my fifty thousand viewers just how easy your mindless job is!"

Before anyone could stop her, Karen reached over, unhooked the brass velvet chain marked "EMPLOYEES ONLY," and barged directly into the narrow barista workstation. She set her selfie stick on a shelf behind the register, angling the phone camera to capture the entire counter.

Leo immediately backed away, raising both hands in alarm. "Ma'am, get out of the prep area right now! You are trespassing in an active kitchen, and these commercial machines operate under extreme thermal pressure!"

"Shut your mouth, kid!" Karen sneered, brushing past him. "A monkey could use these stupid machines!"

Determined to put on a show for her stream, Karen grabbed a stainless-steel steaming pitcher, yanked a carton of oat milk from the under-counter fridge, and poured it to the brim. She stepped up to the commercial Italian espresso machine, eyeing the heavy chrome steam wand—an industrial metal nozzle fed by a boiler blasting 150°C steam at intense pressure.

Wanting to look like a natural barista for her live audience, Karen held the pitcher loosely in one hand and grabbed the steam valve with the other. But instead of submerging the wand tip beneath the liquid as trained baristas do, Karen aggressively yanked the steam valve all the way open while holding the wand completely out in the open air.
