Olivia stepped forward, her burgundy blazer catching the light. "Sergeant, you know who my father is. You know who I am. You have exactly one minute to de-escalate this situation, or my firm will file a Title 42 Section 1983 lawsuit against the city, this department, and Officer Jenkins in her personal capacity, before the sun goes down."

Jenkins finally realized she had stepped into a trap she could not shoot her way out of. Her face flushed pale, the arrogance instantly evaporating into sheer, unadulterated panic. She looked at Sergeant Miller, seeking backup, seeking justification. "Sarge, I... the dispatcher said..."

"The dispatcher relayed a noise complaint about a children's party, Jenkins," Miller said, his voice trembling with a mix of fury and fear. "You took it upon yourself to play cowboy."

My father stepped closer to Jenkins. He didn't raise his voice; he didn't have to. "I spent forty years of my life fighting in courtrooms so that my children and my grandchildren would never have to be subjected to the indignity of a badge without honor. I bought this land. I built this home. I pay the taxes that fund your salary. And you come onto my property, you destroy my grandson’s joy, and you threaten the life of my boy?"

Tears of humiliation welled up in Jenkins' eyes. Her hand was shaking as she holstered her Taser. "I... I was just doing my job."

"Your job is to protect and serve," my father said softly, leaning in just slightly. "Today, you terrorized. And for that, your career in law enforcement ends on this lawn."

My father pulled his phone from his pocket. He didn't dial 911. He scrolled to his contacts, pressed a name, and put it on speakerphone. It rang twice.

"Sam?" a deep voice answered through the speaker. It was Chief of Police Robert Henderson.

"Robert," my father said calmly. "I am standing on my front lawn with Sergeant Miller and Officer Jenkins, badge number 4489. Officer Jenkins just violently assaulted my family during my grandson's birthday party, hurled racial slurs, and drew a weapon on my unarmed son. I need you down here immediately, or I am calling the Mayor and the press."

There was a deafening silence on the line. Then, a heavy sigh. "I'm on my way, Sam. Miller, are you there?"
