Early in the morning, the narrow, winding alleys of the local street market were already thick with activity. Vendors shouted out morning deals over crates of fresh produce, the smell of street coffee drifted through the humid air, and the pathways were crowded with early-bird shoppers.

David, a working-class ride-share scooter driver in his late 50s, stood by his worn-out motorcycle. His hands were rough and deeply lined from decades of manual labor, and his face wore the tired gentleness of a man who worked twelve-hour shifts just to put his daughter through college. David carefully walked his scooter to the edge of the brick lane, engaging the center kickstand right against a concrete wall to ensure he wasn't blocking the bustling crowd while waiting for his first ride request.

Suddenly, Mark—the arrogant, shady boss who ran the neighborhood's private parking lots—walked into the aisle. Strutting beside him was his heavily made-up mistress, Tanya, clad in flashy designer clothes that looked wildly out of place in the humble market.

Tanya was staring intently at her brand-new, $2,000 flagship smartphone, purposely veering off the middle path and heading straight toward David’s stationary vehicle. As she brushed past the handlebars, she deliberately bumped her shoulder against the side mirror and let her fingers slip from the device.

CRACK!

The expensive glass phone slammed face-down onto the hard concrete paving. The screen shattered instantly into an ugly web of spiderweb fractures.

"Oh my God! My $2,000 phone!" Tanya shrieked, pressing her hands to her cheeks and wailing at the top of her lungs, causing the entire market aisle to halt in shock.

Mark stepped up immediately, seizing David by his faded jacket collar and jerking him forward violently. "Where do you think you're going, old man?! Are you blind?! You backed into my wife and smashed her brand-new phone! Pay up right now or I'll break your bike!"

David put his hands up in sheer panic, his voice trembling as he gestured to his parked scooter. "Sir... please! I was standing completely still! My engine isn't even running, and my kickstand is down! You two walked directly into my parked bike!"

"Are you calling us liars, you dirt-poor peasant?!" Tanya sneered, stepping forward and shaking her manicured finger in David's face. "A worthless driver like you couldn't afford this phone if you sold your rusty junk heap ten times over!"

Right on cue, the sharp whine of a police siren echoed from the entrance of the alley. A patrol car pulled up onto the curb, and stepping out was Sergeant Vickers.

Vickers was a heavy-set local precinct officer with a gleaming bald head that caught the morning light. He carried himself with an aggressive, bullying posture—a man infamous throughout the working-class district for taking payoffs from local racketeers while stomping on the defenseless.

Mark casually stepped toward Vickers, leaning in close and sliding a thick, folded stack of hundred-dollar bills directly into the officer's chest pocket. "Sergeant Vickers," Mark whispered with a cruel smirk. "This trashy driver just broke my wife's phone and tried to get violent. Drag him to the precinct and lock him up good."

Sergeant Vickers patted his heavy pocket, a greedy, predatory grin spreading across his bald face. Without interviewing a single market vendor standing nearby, and without even glancing at the broken phone on the floor, he reached behind his utility belt and pulled out his heavy steel handcuffs.

CLICK-CLACK!

Vickers forcefully grabbed David, twisting the elderly man's arms painfully behind his back and slamming the steel cuffs onto his wrists.

"To the station!" Vickers barked loudly, shoving the terrified old driver forward despite his desperate pleas and the angry, helpless murmurs of the surrounding street vendors.

Inside the damp, dimly lit interrogation room at the local 5th Precinct, the air was heavy with the smell of stale coffee and industrial cleaner. Sergeant Vickers slammed the heavy wooden door shut, the metallic latch clicking into place with a ominous finality.

He threw a pre-written debt confession document onto the metal table, tossing a cheap ballpoint pen right beside it.

"Look at this paper carefully," Vickers growled, leaning his heavy frame over David until his sweaty, gleaming bald head blocked out the flickering fluorescent light overhead. "You owe Mr. Mark $2,000 for the broken flagship phone, plus another $2,000 for emotional distress and public nuisance. If you don't have the cash on you, sign over the deed to your small rural family home to his investment company right now."

Tears welled in David's tired eyes as he sat bound in heavy steel handcuffs, his hands shaking against the cold tabletop. "Officer... we are poor working people. That small house in the countryside is the only shelter my ancestors left for my family and my daughter! I did nothing wrong! I won't sign a lie!"

Sergeant Vickers slammed his massive fist onto the steel desk with a deafening BOOM! that vibrated through the floorboards.

"In this precinct, my word is the law!" Vickers roared, his face turning red as he glared down at the driver. "You don't get to bargain, old man! Either you sign this paper right now, or I'm charging you with felony destruction of property, reckless endangerment, and resisting a police officer. You'll spend the next five years rotting in a state prison!"

David slumped back into his chair, weeping silently under the crushing weight of the corrupt officer's threats.
