Sergeant Vickers, a heavy-set precinct officer with a gleaming bald head and a notoriously arrogant demeanor, marched up the walkway. Vickers firmly believed he owned every square inch of the district and loved abusing his authority over ordinary citizens who couldn't fight back.

Seeing Sarah sitting alone in modest attire, Vickers stepped up and kicked the bench leg hard with his combat boot.

"Get out of this park! NOW!" Vickers barked, pointing his finger aggressively toward the park exit.

Sarah slowly lowered her notebook, holding her silver pendant gently in her hand. She looked up at him with calm, unshakable composure.

"What law did I break, Officer?" Sarah asked smoothly.

Vickers' face flushed bright red with instant rage. "Don't test me!"

With a brutal, violent swing of his hand, Vickers slapped Sarah hard across the face! The force of the blow echoed off the surrounding trees, causing her cheek to turn crimson as a few nearby onlookers gasped in shock.

Sarah didn't scream or cry. She slowly raised her hand to touch her burning cheek, looking straight into Vickers' arrogant eyes with terrifying calmness.

"You have just made a very serious mistake," Sarah whispered softly, her voice filled with quiet authority.

Vickers sneered, pulling his heavy steel handcuffs from his utility belt. "You're coming with me, trash!"

Sergeant Vickers shoved Sarah through the heavy door of Interrogation Room A at the 5th Precinct. The room was small, cold, and windowless, lit only by a single buzzing fluorescent bulb overhead.

Vickers forced Sarah down into a hard steel chair anchored to the floor. He pulled a set of pre-written police documents from his clipboard and slammed them onto the metal table directly in front of her.

"Sign this," Vickers growled, leaning his massive frame forward until his sweaty, bald head blocked out the flickering light. "Admit you were vagrant, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer. Sign it right now, or I'll lock you in a state prison cell for five years!"

Sarah sat upright in her chair, her hands bound tightly behind her back. Despite the red mark blooming across her cheek, her face remained completely stoic, calm, and unbothered.

"I will not sign a lie, Sergeant," Sarah said, her voice smooth, steady, and unshakable. "You struck an innocent citizen in a public park without cause or provocation."

Vickers slammed his heavy fist onto the steel table with a deafening BOOM! that vibrated through the floorboards.

"In this district, my badge IS the cause!" Vickers roared, his face turning bright red as he glared down at her. "Look at you—you're a nobody in a cheap coat! Nobody is coming to save you!"
