The neon lights of Manhattan’s most exclusive rooftop club, The Velvet Lounge, gleamed against the wet asphalt of the VIP valet entrance. Outside, a line of $300,000 sports cars idled as high-society billionaires and influencers made their grand entry into the night.

Seraphina Cross stepped off the sidewalk toward the valet stand. At twenty-four, Seraphina possessed a breathtaking, effortless beauty—striking hazel eyes, high cheekbones, and long dark hair tied back in a casual ponytail. Fresh from testing an experimental electric powertrain at a private racetrack, she wore dark jeans, a simple white tank top, and a scuffed leather racing jacket. In her pocket rested a sleek, custom carbon-fiber key fob with a glowing blue biometric crystal.

She was here to meet her private board of directors for a late-night signing.

"Hold on right there!"

Hector, the head valet manager, stepped out to block her path. He folded his arms over his crisp black vest, scanning her scuffed boots and casual clothes with unshielded disgust. "Public pedestrian walking is around the block, lady. You can't hang around the VIP driveway looking like a grease monkey."

Seraphina offered a calm, unbothered smile. "I'm not hanging around. My car is being delivered to the main driveway in five minutes."

Hector let out a harsh, theatrical laugh that drew glances from nearby patrons. "Your car? What did you ride here, a rented electric scooter? Clear the driveway before I call security to remove you!"

Before Seraphina could answer, a loud, aggressive engine roar echoed down the avenue. A bright lime-green Lamborghini Huracán screeched to a halt right at the curb. Julian Drake, an arrogant hedge-fund heir wearing a velvet blazer, stepped out of the driver's side alongside Giselle, a plastic-surgery influencer draped in designer logos.

Julian tossed his keys toward Hector, but as his eyes landed on Seraphina, he stopped dead in his tracks. His face instantly twisted into a cruel, mocking sneer.

"Seraphina? Is that actually you?"

Seraphina turned slowly, her hazel eyes cool and unreadable. "Hello, Julian."

"Who is this girl, honey?" Giselle asked, holding a cup of iced caramel macchiato and scanning Seraphina with open contempt. "Did the valet hire a new car washer?"

"Oh, babe, no," Julian laughed arrogantly, wrapping his arm around Giselle’s waist. "This is Seraphina—my ex from college! When we dated, she spent all her weekends in a greasy garage covered in engine oil, wearing secondhand clothes and talking about engine specs. Looks like two years haven't changed a thing. Still a broke nobody wandering around places she can't afford!"

Julian reached into his pocket, pulled out a thick wad of cash, and peeled off three hundred-dollar bills. With a smirk, he slapped the money hard against Seraphina’s chest, letting the bills flutter down to the wet pavement at her boots.

"Here's three hundred bucks, Seraphina," Julian sneered, leaning in close. "Take a taxi home and stop embarrassing yourself in front of real rich people."

Hector bowed obsequiously to Julian. "Mr. Drake! Welcome, sir! Apologies for this eyesore—I was just about to have security drag this beggar out."

Seraphina looked down at the money on the ground, then raised her gaze to lock onto Julian's eyes. Her expression carried an effortless, terrifying authority that made Julian's smirk waver for a fraction of a second.

"Keep your cash, Julian," Seraphina said softly, her voice carrying an icy edge. "Your father's firm is going to need every dollar by midnight. And Hector... your attitude is about to end your employment."

Julian's face flushed red with sudden rage. "You arrogant little trash! How dare you talk to me like that?!"

Grabbing the iced macchiato straight from Giselle's hand, Julian hurled the sticky, coffee-filled drink directly at Seraphina's chest. The dark brown liquid splashed across her white tank top and leather jacket, dripping down onto her jeans.

Giselle giggled behind her manicured hand, while Hector clapped in satisfaction. "Security! Throw her into the alley!"

Seraphina didn't flinch. She casually wiped a drop of coffee from her collar with two fingers. Reaching into her leather jacket, she pulled out a custom dark titanium smartphone and pressed a single speed-dial button.

"Harrison," Seraphina spoke into the receiver, her voice cold enough to freeze the street. "Is my $30 million custom hypercar arriving at the valet? ... Good. Bring the board of directors and my security detail immediately. You have ninety seconds."

Seraphina hung up, tucked her phone away, and looked at the three of them with a calm, dangerous smile.

Julian and Giselle burst into hysterical, loud laughter. Hector shook his head in mock pity.

"A thirty-million-dollar hypercar?!" Hector wheezed, pointing at her stained clothes. "You think you're Seraphina Cross, the billionaire Chairwoman of Cross Dynamics?! Guards, get this lunatic out of here!"

The two heavy-set security guards lunged forward, their thick hands reaching out to seize Seraphina by her coffee-stained jacket. Hector stood behind them with his arms folded over his vest, a cruel, satisfied smirk plastered across his face as he waited to see her thrown out into the damp street.

"Get her off VIP property," Hector ordered coldly. "And make sure the police pick her up for harassment."

Before the guards’ fingers could make contact with Seraphina’s skin, the wet asphalt beneath their feet began to vibrate violently.

A deep, reverberating V12 engine rumble shook the entire street, drowning out the muffled bass pounding from The Velvet Lounge rooftop. Headlights cut through the Manhattan fog as four jet-black armored SUVs turned the corner, escorting a massive, custom glass-panel transport truck.

The convoy screeched to a halt right along the curb, blocking the entire valet entrance.

The glass panels of the transport truck folded open smoothly with a hydraulic hiss. Inside rested the Cross Apex-1—a thirty-million-dollar, one-of-one ultra-hypercar forged entirely from exposed dark-blue carbon fiber, brushed titanium accents, and glowing laser headlights. It was a mechanical masterpiece so rare that only one existed on the planet.

The entire street fell dead silent. Billionaires, valet staff, and paparazzi outside the club gasped in sheer, unadulterated awe.

"Oh my god..." Julian breathed, his mouth hanging wide open as he stared at the vehicle. "That's... that's the Apex-1! It was bought at a private Swiss auction last week for thirty million dollars! I read about it on the cover of Forbes!"

Giselle pulled out her phone with trembling hands, frantically snapping photos. "Julian! Who owns that car?! You have to introduce me right now!"

Julian adjusted his velvet blazer, trying to regain his arrogant posture. "It belongs to the mysterious billionaire Chairwoman of Cross Dynamics. She’s supposed to be meeting her board here tonight." He turned and glared at Seraphina, pointing a finger directly at her face. "Hey, broke girl, move out of the way before your filthy clothes touch a machine worth more than your entire bloodline!"

Seraphina didn't say a word. She calmly reached into her pocket, pulled out the carbon-fiber key fob, and pressed her thumb against the glowing blue biometric crystal.

BEEP-BEEP.

The thirty-million-dollar hypercar flashed its brilliant laser headlights. The ultra-lightweight carbon-fiber butterfly doors glided automatically upward into the air like the wings of a jet fighter, revealing a bespoke white leather cockpit stamped with the golden crest of Cross Dynamics.

Julian’s eyes nearly bulged out of his head. "W-What... why did the lights just flash?!"
