Nobody expected the kid in the oversized navy suit to speak. The jacket swallowed his shoulders, the sleeves ran way too long and hid most of his hands, and his tie was crooked. He carried a scuffed, peeling leather briefcase that looked like it had been passed down through generations. But 17-year-old Elijah Carrington didn't flinch. "No, sir. Representing," Elijah stated firmly, holding up a notarized document. He explained that his brother had filed a pro se motion for self-representation and legally designated Elijah to act as his representative under Georgia's lay-representation provisions.

The judge’s smirk widened into a sneer. "Son, this is not a mock trial. This is a felony case." He reminded Elijah that he was only seventeen, had absolutely no law license, and zero formal training.

Elijah just stared right back. "No, sir," he admitted. "But I have studied the law for two years, and I have read everything related to my brother's case twice."

The chuckles in the gallery instantly died out. The atmosphere shifted into a suffocating, uncomfortable silence. From the back row, Isaiah watched his younger brother. Judge Tolbert looked taken aback but waved his hand. "You may."

Officer Paul Haskins swaggered up to the stand. He was a massive, 45-year-old man built like a linebacker, and he looked down at Elijah like the boy was a joke.

"State your name for the record," Elijah demanded.

Haskins scowled. "Are you serious?"

"Your name, please," Elijah repeated, his tone icy and unyielding.

"You said you saw my brother inside the vehicle with the stolen property," Elijah stated, pacing slowly in front of the defense table.

"Yeah," Officer Haskins scoffed, leaning back in the witness chair. "Flat-screen television in the back seat, two laptops. I pulled him over after I received the tip."

"This tip. Did you log it?" Elijah asked sharply.

"No," Haskins muttered.

"You also said he ran," Elijah pressed on.

"He tried. I stopped him," the officer replied, crossing his massive arms.

Elijah didn’t blink. He calmly opened one of his perfectly organized files. "Then how do you explain this?"

He held high a clear, timestamped photograph. It showed Isaiah facedown on the pavement, completely handcuffed, with Officer Haskins kneeling right beside him. "This image is timestamped five minutes before the traffic stop was officially recorded," Elijah announced to the dead-silent room.

The courtroom erupted in loud whispers. Haskins’ smug face dropped. Judge Tolbert jolted forward, his smirk vanishing instantly. "Where did you get that?" the judge demanded.

"From a neighbor's doorbell camera," Elijah revealed flawlessly. "The arrest did not happen during the stop. It happened before the recorded stop. That means the official timeline is false and raises the issue of an unlawful seizure."

Officer Haskins stammered, sweat breaking out on his forehead. "I... I must have gotten the time wrong," he choked out.

"So your official report is wrong, your body camera was off, and you did not record the anonymous tip," Elijah fired back relentlessly.

But Elijah wasn't done destroying the state's case. He grabbed a second folder. "I would also like to submit a sworn statement from Mrs. Wanda Freeman, the homeowner whose house was allegedly burglarized."

Judge Tolbert was stunned. "You had her sign this yourself?"

"Yes, sir. Yesterday afternoon," Elijah replied. He revealed that the homeowner’s television was exactly where she left it, there was zero forced entry, and nothing was actually missing. The homeowner hadn't even been interviewed by the police.

Elijah turned to her, his eyes blazing with protective fury. "You did not ask," he told her flatly. "Because you assumed he was guilty."

The judge read the statement, utterly speechless. The state's narrative was collapsing in real-time. But the laptops were still an issue. Haskins claimed the two laptops in Isaiah's car were logged as stolen property.

Elijah just shook his head, pulling out yet another paper. "According to this receipt from the electronics store three blocks from our house, my brother purchased those laptops two days earlier using his own debit card."

Lindholm slowly sank back into her chair, completely defeated. Someone in the gallery whispered, "That boy came with receipts."

But Elijah saved his most explosive weapon for last. He turned to the judge and called his surprise witness: Mr. Travis Dent.

A man in a faded mechanic's shirt and work boots stood up from the back row and walked to the stand. Tolbert looked confused. Haskins suddenly turned white as a ghost.

Travis cleared his throat, the sound echoing loudly in the absolute silence. "He said he had finally gotten him," Travis confessed, his voice shaking slightly. Elijah wasn't finished. He knew that winning the legal argument wasn't enough; he had to force the system to look at its own broken reflection. "If we are calling this justice, then we need to stop pretending it begins with a uniform," Elijah declared passionately. "It should begin with the truth. My brother is not perfect, but he did not do what he is accused of doing, and everything presented today proves that."

Tolbert looked over at the prosecutor. "Do you have a rebuttal?"

Lindholm stammered, clearly defeated. "I will need time to verify these new statements and documents."

Elijah cut in immediately, his voice sharp and full of pain. "You may take time, but every day he spends in that cell is a day stolen from someone who has not had a fair chance to be heard."

The judge stared at Elijah for a very long time. He was no longer looking at a boy playing dress-up in his dead father's clothes. He was looking at a brilliant, relentless defender of justice.

A massive gasp went through the crowd. Someone actually started clapping before getting shushed by the bailiff.

"The charges against Isaiah Carrington are hereby dismissed with prejudice," Tolbert ruled, bringing his gavel down.

The room exploded in relief. Shoulders dropped, people cried openly, and the heavy burden of injustice shattered. Isaiah just stared at his little brother, his mouth opening and closing as he tried to process the miracle that had just happened. Tolbert officially declared Isaiah free to go.
