Vickers reached out with lightning speed, snatching Sarah's legal ID card straight out of her fingers. Without even glancing at the name on the front, he gripped the card with both hands and tore it straight down the middle. He tossed the shredded plastic pieces into the trash bin in the corner.

"What ID?" Vickers laughed arrogantly, stepping forward and grabbing Sarah roughly by the arm.

CLICK-CLACK!

Before she could pull away, Vickers unclipped a second pair of steel handcuffs from his belt and snapped them tightly onto Sarah's wrists, pinning her arms behind her back.

"Now you're under arrest too—for trespassing on a police facility and obstructing an active investigation!" Vickers whispered venomously into her ear, leaning back with an arrogant smirk. "You two poor fools really thought someone would save you? Nobody above me gives a damn about a couple of bus passengers!"

"Is that so, Sergeant Vickers?"

A sharp, authoritative voice boomed from the hallway, instantly cutting through the damp air of the interrogation room.

Before Vickers could even turn his head, the heavy metal door was kicked wide open, slamming against the wall so hard the frame shuddered. A dozen State Internal Affairs Inspectors and armed Tactical Officers flooded into the room with weapons raised, followed closely by the City Mayor and the Chief of Police.

Vickers froze, his face instantly draining of all color as cold sweat poured down his gleaming bald head. "Mr. Mayor?! Chief?! What... what is the meaning of this?! I'm conducting an active investigation on two non-compliant suspects who—"

"Shut your mouth, Vickers!" the Chief of Police roared, his face flushed with rage as he stepped into the room.

David calmly stood up from his steel chair, holding out his cuffed wrists. The Chief himself stepped forward with a key, hastily unlocking the cuffs from David's wrists and then doing the same for Sarah.

David rubbed his wrists gently, then reached up to his right ear. He pulled out a tiny, skin-colored Bluetooth earbud glowing with a faint green status light.

"You said nobody above you gives a damn about a bus passenger, Vickers," David said, his deep voice carrying a quiet, unshakable power that commanded the entire room. "Allow me to properly introduce myself. I am David Miller—the newly appointed City Director of Finance and Budget."

Vickers gasped in utter horror, his jaw dropping open as his eyes dilated in sheer panic.

"I was personally taking public transit this morning to conduct an unannounced audit of our city's transit infrastructure," David continued, looking directly into Vickers' terrified eyes. "And this earbud was live-linked directly to the City Council's emergency budget hearing. The Mayor, the Chief, and the entire City Council just listened to your entire abuse of power, watched you kick my briefcase, heard you tear up my daughter's legal credentials, and listened to your arrogant threats in real time."

Vickers' knees buckled beneath him. His massive frame hit the concrete floor with a heavy thud as his entire world shattered in an instant.

The Mayor stepped forward, trembling with anger as he pointed a finger down at the kneeling officer. "You arrogant fool! You just handcuffed the man who controls our precinct's entire annual operational budget and salary distribution!"

The Chief of Police leaned down, grabbed the gold police badge from Vickers' chest, and ripped it straight off his uniform, leaving torn black threads dangling from his shirt.

"Sergeant Vickers," the Chief declared coldly. "You are fired effective immediately and placed under arrest for federal civil rights violations, evidence destruction, and official misconduct under color of authority!"

CLICK-CLACK!

Two Internal Affairs agents shoved Vickers face-down onto the cold concrete floor, slamming heavy steel handcuffs tightly onto his wrists—the exact same cuffs he had used on David just hours before.

Ten minutes later, David and Sarah walked out through the front doors of the 5th Precinct into the bright morning sunlight, flanked by the Mayor and the Chief of Police. Standing outside was a crowd of news reporters and local transit passengers, erupting into cheers as David stepped up to the microphones.

The corrupt badge was gone, the arrogant bully was behind bars, and a quiet man with a leather briefcase had just proven that no amount of ego or abuse of power can ever hide from the truth.
