"Initiate the full hostile takeover immediately, Arthur," Victoria commanded, her voice dropping into a razor-sharp, icy chill. "Cancel every supply contract associated with the Ashford family by midnight. Freeze their credit lines, terminate their bank loans, and buy out their debt holders."

"At once, Madam President," Arthur replied smoothly. "And what of Mr. Mark Ashford?"

Victoria stood up, her presence dominating the room as she glanced back one last time at Liam, leaving a crisp black Sterling Sapphire card on the table with a silent nod of gratitude.

"Tell him his two-year test of character is over," Victoria said, walking out toward the waiting Maybach as Arthur held the door open. "And he failed miserably."

The morning sun had barely crested the skyline when the foundation beneath Ashford Enterprises began to shatter.

Inside the executive suite of his family’s corporate headquarters, Mark Ashford adjusted his silk tie in the mirror, a arrogant smile playing on his lips. Today was supposed to be the day he officially signed the merger with Dupont Real Estate, securing his place in the city's elite. But before his pen could touch the paper, his office doors slammed open.

His father rushed in, pale, sweating profusely, and clutching a stack of legal notices. "Mark! What have you done? Who did you cross?"

"Father, calm down. What are you talking about?" Mark scoffed, waving a dismissive hand. "I'm about to marry into the Dupont fortune. Nothing can touch us."

"The banks just recalled all our loans!" his father shouted, his voice cracking with terror. "Every single one of our suppliers canceled their contracts at midnight. The credit rating agency reduced us to junk status in six hours! The buyout offer came from Sterling Global Enterprises—they own ninety-eight percent of our corporate debt now, and they're executing a forced liquidation!"

Mark’s heart sank, a cold drip of sweat trailing down his neck. "Sterling Global? We don't even operate in the same sphere as them! They're an international empire. Why would a sovereign conglomerate care about a mid-tier firm like ours?"

"I don't know!" his father cried out, collapsing into a chair. "Our only hope is the Grand Emerald Gala tonight. Mr. Dupont is hosting the city’s top investors. You have to convince Chloe’s father to inject emergency capital into our accounts before news of our bankruptcy hits the press tomorrow!"

While panic consumed the Ashford household, peace reigned at the small corner café on 5th Avenue.

Liam was wiping down the polished wooden counters when a sleek black velvet envelope was delivered directly to his hand by a courier in white gloves. Inside was an official deed transfer, alongside a golden invitation.

The accompanying note, handwritten in elegant gold ink, read:

“Kindness is the rarest currency in this city. The building now belongs to you—unencumbered and fully funded for life. Join me tonight as my guest of honor at the Grand Emerald Gala. — V.S.”

Liam stared at the document in sheer disbelief. Beneath the deed sat a tailor-made silk tuxedo, perfectly measured to his frame.

Night fell over the city, casting a glittering glow across the marble steps of the Grand Regency Ballroom. Red carpets stretched for hundreds of yards as photographers flashed their cameras at politicians, billionaires, and old-money aristocrats.
