The heavy glass and antique gold doors of Maison de L'Étoile, Manhattan’s most prestigious luxury auction house, parted to reveal a sanctuary of white marble, crystal chandeliers, and priceless fine art.

Aria Kensington stepped onto the hand-woven silk carpet. At twenty-four years old, Aria possessed a striking, ethereal beauty—piercing sapphire-blue eyes, flawless porcelain skin, and long, golden-brown hair that cascaded naturally down her back. Fresh from a morning spent painting murals at a local children's shelter, she wore a simple white linen sundress, a dark denim jacket, and a pair of worn canvas sneakers. In her canvas tote bag sat a handwritten note containing a private lot number.

She was here to quietly collect a ten-million-dollar pink diamond necklace—a surprise birthday gift for her grandmother.

"Stop right there," a sharp, condescending voice hissed.

Beatrice, the gallery's elite director, marched forward in five-inch heels, scanning Aria from her sneakers to her unstyled hair with open disgust. "Deliveries go around back through the service alley. You cannot wander through a VIP gallery looking like a college drop-out."

Aria offered a calm, polite smile. "I'm not delivering anything. I'm here for Lot 42 in the private vault."

Beatrice let out a cruel, mocking laugh. "Lot 42? That necklace is valued at ten million dollars! Do you have any idea where you are, little girl? Leave before I call security to throw you into the street."

Before Aria could reply, the sharp click of designer heels echoed across the marble hall. Tiffany, a high-society influencer dripping in diamond bracelets, walked in arm-in-arm with Julian Hayes—a pompous hedge-fund heir wearing a tailored suit and a smirk that suggested he owned the city.

Julian froze as his eyes landed on Aria. His face twisted into a sneer. "Aria? Is that really you?"

Aria turned, her sapphire eyes cool and unbothered. "Hello, Julian."

"Who is this peasant, babe?" Tiffany asked, curling her lip as she looked Aria up and down. "Your maid?"

"Oh, sweetie, no," Julian laughed, squeezing Tiffany's waist. "This is Aria—my ex from college! When we dated, she lived in a tiny studio, wore thrifted clothes, and refused to let me buy her anything expensive. Looks like two years haven't changed a thing. Still a broke nobody."

Julian pulled a thick money clip from his jacket, casually peeling off a stack of hundred-dollar bills. He slapped the cash directly against Aria’s chest, letting the bills flutter down onto her canvas sneakers.

"Here's two thousand dollars, Aria," Julian sneered. "Go buy yourself a proper dress and stop embarrassing yourself in front of real high society."

Beatrice bowed obsequiously toward Julian. "Mr. Hayes! Welcome back, sir. Apologies for this nuisance—I was just having security remove this vagrant."

Aria looked down at the money on the floor, then raised her eyes to lock onto Julian's. Her expression remained completely serene, carrying an effortless, chilling elegance that made Julian's smile waver for a fraction of a second.

"Keep your cash, Julian," Aria said softly. "You'll need every penny of it by sunset. And Beatrice... your arrogance is about to cost you everything."

Julian's face flushed red with sudden anger. "You arrogant little bitch! How dare you talk to me like that?!"

Reaching for a tray held by a passing server, Julian grabbed a glass of vintage pink champagne and threw it directly at Aria's chest. The dark pink liquid splashed across her white dress, soaking the fabric and staining it crimson.

Tiffany giggled behind her manicured hand, while Beatrice smirked in approval. "Security! Drag this girl out right now!"

Aria didn't flinch. She slowly wiped a drop of champagne from her cheek with the back of her hand. Reaching into her tote bag, she pulled out a custom rose-gold titanium smartphone and pressed a single speed-dial button.

"Gabriel," Aria spoke into the phone, her voice dropping the room's temperature to absolute zero. "Did Kensington Global Enterprises finalize the takeover of Maison de L'Étoile? ... Excellent. Bring the board members, the title deeds, and my security detail to the main gallery. You have ninety seconds."

Aria hung up, tucking her phone away, and looked at the three of them with a calm, dangerous smile.

Julian and Tiffany burst into hysterical laughter. Beatrice shook her head in mock pity. "Takeover?! Kensington Global?! You think you're Aria Kensington, the billionaire Chairwoman?! Guards, throw her into the alley!"

Two towering security guards stepped forward, their thick hands reaching out to grab Aria by her champagne-soaked shoulders. Beatrice stood behind them with folded arms, a cruel, satisfied smirk plastered across her face as she waited to watch the young woman humiliated.

"Throw her straight into the back alley," Beatrice commanded coldly.

Before the guards’ fingers could make contact with Aria’s skin, the ear-splitting screech of high-performance tires echoed from the street outside.

Through the massive floor-to-ceiling glass doors, a convoy of four jet-black Maybachs screeched to a halt along the curb, hazard lights flashing in flawless, terrifying unison.

The gallery’s heavy bronze doors flew open. A dozen male and female security operatives in dark suits spilled inside, instantly securing every entrance and exit of the auction house with military precision.

Walking through the doors was Gabriel, the legendary Chief Operating Officer of Kensington Global Enterprises, flanked by senior board members in formal black-tie attire.

Beatrice’s jaw dropped. Recognizing the high-profile executive team whose photos graced the covers of Forbes and Bloomberg, she scrambled forward, bowing repeatedly. "Mr. Gabriel! Welcome to Maison de L'Étoile, sir! We had no advance notice of Kensington Global’s visit today—"

Gabriel didn't even slow down. He brushed past Beatrice as if she were made of thin air, marching with absolute purpose toward the young woman standing in canvas sneakers and a wine-stained sundress.

To the sheer, paralyzing horror of everyone in the room, Gabriel and the entire board of directors stopped two paces in front of Aria and bowed ninety degrees from the waist.

"My deepest apologies for the brief delay, Chairwoman Kensington," Gabriel said, his crisp, authoritative voice echoing off the vaulted marble ceilings. He gestured, and an operative immediately presented a floor-length white silk cape alongside a warm, scented towel. "The emergency acquisition paperwork for Maison de L'Étoile and its parent conglomerate has been fully executed. You are now the sole owner of this auction house, its inventory, and all underlying real estate."

Gabriel opened a velvet-lined leather binder, displaying official state deeds stamped with the glowing gold crest of Kensington Global Enterprises.
