The Red-Haired Princess in the Tower Above the Clouds
There was once a kingdom where the sunsets seemed to last forever. Every evening, the sky melted into shades of crimson, amber, and gold, painting the mountains with colors so beautiful that people believed the Sun lingered there before saying goodnight to the world. At the highest peak of those mountains stood a tower unlike any other, so impossibly tall that its highest windows disappeared into the clouds. No roads led to it. No visitors ever climbed its endless staircase. From the villages below, it looked less like a building and more like a lonely star reaching toward the heavens.
Hidden within that tower lived a princess no one had seen for over twelve years.
Her name was Lyra.
She was born with hair the color of living fire—long waves of brilliant crimson that shimmered like silk woven from the last rays of sunset. Whenever sunlight touched her hair, it glowed with a warmth so gentle that flowers bloomed a little brighter, birds sang a little sweeter, and even the coldest winter mornings seemed to soften in her presence. Across the kingdom, people whispered that the Sun itself had kissed the newborn princess, leaving behind a piece of its eternal light.
But not everyone saw her gift as a blessing.
Long before Lyra was born, an ancient prophecy had been hidden beneath the royal palace, carved into a slab of black stone worn smooth by centuries. It spoke of a child with crimson hair who would awaken an unimaginable power beneath the light of her eighteenth full moon—a power capable of changing the fate of the entire world forever. The prophecy never explained whether that change would bring hope or ruin, and uncertainty has always been the greatest companion of fear.
King Aldren loved his daughter more than his own life. Every smile she gave him was worth more than his crown, every laugh more precious than all the treasures locked within the royal vaults. Yet the love of a frightened father became the very thing that stole her childhood. Convinced that greedy kings, ruthless warlords, and dark sorcerers would hunt the girl spoken of in the prophecy, he made an impossible decision.
He ordered the construction of a tower so high that no army could ever reach it.
Built upon cliffs that pierced the clouds, the tower became Lyra's new home before she was even old enough to understand what the word "freedom" meant.
Years slipped away like falling snow.
While children her age chased butterflies through blooming meadows, Lyra wandered silent halls lined with ancient books. While festivals filled the kingdom with music and laughter, she listened only to the wind humming outside her narrow window. Her only companions were curious sparrows, passing clouds, and the moon that faithfully visited her every night. She learned about oceans she had never touched, forests she had never explored, and stars she could name one by one, yet she had never walked barefoot through fresh grass or felt warm rain against her skin.
Sometimes she imagined what the world below smelled like after spring storms.
Sometimes she wondered if anyone still remembered she existed.
Every evening, she would rest her forehead against the cold glass and watch tiny golden lights flicker across the villages far below. Families gathered around dinner tables. Children chased each other through the streets. Lanterns floated into the sky during celebrations. They all seemed impossibly distant, like another world she could admire but never enter.
Then, on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, the sky changed.
Dark clouds swallowed the stars.
Thunder echoed across the mountains with a voice that seemed older than time itself.
The wind circled the lonely tower like an invisible giant searching for something long forgotten.
A bolt of lightning split the heavens, and the ancient window burst open.
Out of the raging storm flew a wounded raven.
Its feathers were soaked with rain.
Its wing was broken.
Its breathing was faint.
Without a moment's hesitation, Lyra rushed forward and gathered the trembling bird into her arms. As tears rolled down her cheeks, something extraordinary happened. Her crimson hair began to glow—not with blazing fire, but with a soft golden radiance as warm as the first sunrise after the longest winter. Tiny sparks drifted through the air like glowing fireflies, wrapping gently around the injured creature.
The broken wing slowly straightened.
The shattered feathers mended themselves one by one.
The raven opened its eyes.
And then...
It transformed into a young man cloaked in silver and emerald, with eyes that reflected entire forests beneath the moonlight.
For a long moment, neither of them spoke.
Finally, the stranger smiled.
"You are not the beginning of the world's end," he whispered.
"You are the beginning of its dawn."
At that very moment, the full moon emerged from behind the storm clouds.
Its silver light touched Lyra's crimson hair.
And the prophecy...
finally awakened.
