“Get that girl out of here!”

The bride’s scream echoed through the magnificent wedding hall, silencing hundreds of guests beneath the glow of crystal chandeliers. The celebration that was supposed to mark the happiest day of her life suddenly turned into a moment of confusion and fear. Every guest turned toward the back of the aisle, where two small figures stood frozen on the black marble floor.

They were two little girls.

Their beautiful dresses were once probably white and clean, but now they were completely ruined. Rainwater soaked through the fabric, mud covered their faces, and their small hands trembled from exhaustion. The younger girl held tightly onto her older sister, hiding her face against her shoulder while trying desperately to hold back her tears.

The entire room watched as the children slowly stepped forward.

Nobody knew why they had appeared at a wedding looking like they had escaped from a nightmare.

Then the younger girl lifted her head.

Through her tears, she looked toward the man standing at the altar.

And she screamed one word.

“Daddy!”

The groom froze.

The smile that had been on his face only seconds earlier disappeared completely. His body went stiff as if someone had taken away the air from his lungs.

He stared at the two children standing in front of him, searching their faces for something impossible.

Beside him, the bride’s anger disappeared instantly.

Her confident expression broke apart.

Her lips slowly opened, and a single tear slipped down her cheek before she could hide it.

The groom stepped away from the altar.

“Lily?” he whispered.

His voice shook.

“Sophie?”

The older girl immediately began crying harder.

“Daddy,” she said. “Please don’t leave us alone again.”

Those words destroyed him.

He had spent six months believing his daughters were safe.

After his first wife, Emily, passed away unexpectedly, he had been completely broken. His two daughters, Lily and Sophie, were the only pieces of his old life that remained. They were his reason to keep moving forward.

But after Emily’s funeral, his new fiancée, Claire, told him that the girls needed time away from everything.

She said his daughters were struggling emotionally.

She said they would stay overseas with their grandmother until they were ready to return.

She showed him photos.

She sent him updates.

She told him everything was fine.

And because he trusted the woman he loved, he believed every word.

But now his daughters were standing in front of him.

The older girl reached into the pocket of her muddy dress and pulled out a small envelope.

The paper was wet and damaged, but she protected it carefully with both hands.

“Mommy gave this to us before she died,” Lily whispered.

“She told us we should only give it to you if that woman tried to become our new mother.”

The entire wedding hall became silent.

The groom slowly took the envelope.

His hands shook as he opened it.

Inside was a letter written in Emily’s handwriting.

His heart nearly stopped.

The letter explained everything.

Emily had discovered that Claire was not the caring woman she pretended to be. She had noticed small changes whenever Claire was around the children. The girls became quieter. They stopped smiling. They became afraid whenever they heard Claire’s footsteps.

Emily had planned to confront her.

But she never got the chance.

Before her death, she had hidden the letter and told Lily exactly what to do if something ever happened.

The groom finished reading.

His eyes filled with tears.

Then he looked at Claire.

The woman he thought would become a loving stepmother.

The woman standing beside him in a wedding dress.

The woman who had convinced him she cared about his children.

“Is this true?” he asked quietly.

Claire immediately shook her head.

“No. They are lying. They are confused. They don’t understand what happened.”

But her voice was different now.

The confidence was gone.

The guests began whispering.

Some looked at the children.

Others looked at Claire.

The younger girl stepped closer to her father and grabbed his hand.

“She locked us there,” Sophie cried.

The groom looked down.

“Where?”

The little girl pointed toward Claire with a trembling finger.

“The old garden shed.”

A wave of shock moved through the room.

People gasped.

The bride’s face turned completely pale.

The groom stared at her, unable to recognize the person standing in front of him.

“You told me they were with their grandmother.”

Claire tried to speak.

“I was protecting you.”

“Protecting me?” he repeated.

His voice became colder.

“You took my daughters away from me.”

The room remained silent as he walked toward his children.

He dropped to his knees and pulled them into his arms.

For six months, he had believed he had lost his daughters.
